beim German Chapter of the ACM, der deutschen Gruppe des ACM, Association for Computing Machinery. Unsere Ziele sind die Förderung der Informatik und ihrer Anwendungen, sowie der Kommunikation zwischen Informatikern in Deutschland, Europa und mit der amerikanischen Muttergesellschaft ACM. Außerdem haben wir uns der Verbreitung neuer Erkenntnisse in der Informatik verschrieben und agieren als Kommunikationsplattform zwischen Informatik und Wirtschaft.

SACMAT 2013 in Amsterdam

Zwei Mitglieder des ACM Europe Council erhalten hohe Auszeichnungen: Fabrizio Gagliari, Chairperson von ACM Europe, erhält den ACM Presidential Award für seine engagierte Aufbauarbeit des ACM Europe Council und seine zentrale Rolle bei der Initiierung des Heidelberg Laureate Forum. Mateo Vatero vom Barcelona Supercomputing Center und Mitglied im Vorstand des ACM Europe Council wird für seine hervorragende Forschung im High-performance Computing mit dem Distinguished Service Award ausgezeichnet. Seit Anfang 2011 gibt es die gemeinsame Arbeitsgruppe von ACM Europe und Informatics Europe, die sich dafür einsetzt, Informatik als Unterrichtsfach zu stärken. What You'll Learn:
The Internet has matured over its 30-year operational life (and 40th year since inception) but it is still evolving. We will discuss the current and anticipated technical evolution of the system, the power of mobile technology to leverage the computing power of the Internet and World Wide Web, the introduction of the Internet of Things and the implications these have for safety, authentication and control.
We will also look at what the future holds in terms of an interplanetary extension. The Internet's increasing utility and centrality in modern life and the economy have not escaped the notice of countries around the world and other institutions involved in communication. For many, the Internet poses a threat because of its open character and the freedom it offers for democratic processes. There is a war on for the control of the Internet: will it stay open and accessible or will authoritarian governments inflict access and content controls to suppress freedom of expression? There have been many battles on this front and the war is not over. A similar tussle is appearing with regard to intellectual property. Purists take the view that all material is copyright on creation and should be protected; realists believe that this choice should be up to the creators of the material and offer Creative Commons as a flexible example. The digital world's economics differ markedly from the world of physical copies, and some of the business models that rested on inhibiting copying are struggling with these differences.
This webinar is intended for general audiences. You will come away with an appreciation for the scope, depth, and evolutionary arc of the Internet and the policy and technical challenges it poses in the 21st Century.

ACM Turing Award an Shafi Goldwasser und Silvio Micali
Mit dem Preis honoriert ACM die bahnbrechenden Forschungsarbeiten der beiden MIT-Professoren auf dem Gebiet der Kryptographie. Mit ihren Verfahren zur effizienten Überprüfung von mathematischen Beweisen in der Komplexitätstheorie legten sie u.a. den Grundstock zu sicheren Finanztransaktionen und ermöglichten die Realisierung von Internet-basierten E-Commerce Systemen. Ohne ihre Arbeit wären Geldautomaten, elektronische Stimmabgabe und Online-Handel nicht möglich geworden.
Shafi Goldwasser ist die RSA Professorin für Elektrotechnik und Informatik am Massachusetts Institute of Technology, und Principal Investigator am MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) sowie Professorin für Informatik und Angewandte Mathematik am Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. Silvio Micali ist Ford Professor of Engineering am MIT und Principal Investigator am MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL). Für seine Forschung hat er bereits den Gödel-Preis der ACM SIGACT und EATCS erhalten.
